A Shift Towards Clarity: A 200h Immersive Yoga Teacher Training

At Shift Yoga Collective, we believe the mat is just the beginning. More than a certification, our 200-hour training is an intentional exploration of practice, shaped by science and guided by philosophy. Join the founding cohort in downtown Guelph and transform yoga from something you do into something you live.

Our journey begins with an immersive retreat weekend to set the foundation for the training, included in the program tuition.

"A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step" - Lao Tzu

Each topic in this YTT has been thoughtfully chosen to create a meaningful journey—one that supports you in building a sustainable and authentic practice, whether that path leads you to teaching or just to a deeper personal exploration.

Philosophy, Pranayama, Meditation

We don’t just recite sutras—we explore how they translate into real life in 2026.

Together, we will dive into the ancient roots of yoga to understand the broader context and intention behind the practice, while learning how these teachings intersect with modern science, culture, and real-world experience. This section invites curiosity, reflection, and critical thinking, offering space to question, integrate, and embody the philosophy rather than simply memorize it.

The focus is on building a meaningful, adaptable toolkit—one that supports your personal practice, your teaching, and the way you move through the world long after you roll up the mat.

Anatomy & Physiology

While anatomy and physiology can feel intimidating, this section is designed as an invitation to connect more deeply with your physical form. Each concept is broken down into small, digestible pieces, guiding you from one aha moment to the next.

In this section we’ll explore functional anatomy, biomechanics, and nervous system regulation in ways that are practical, accessible, and immediately applicable to your own practice and teaching. The focus is on cultivating body literacy—learning to read movement, hounor individual differences, and develop confidence in offering informed, thoughtful modifications.

This is anatomy you can feel, understand, and use—long after the training ends.

Postures, Language, Sequencing

This section centers on traditional yoga postures as the foundation of practice, while exploring how they can be adapted to meet the needs of every body. Rather than chasing ideal shapes, we focus on understanding the intention behind each posture and how it can be expressed in diverse, functional ways.

You’ll learn how to build intelligent sequences rooted in tradition, guided by breath, awareness, and purpose. We place strong emphasis on teaching language that is clear, inclusive, and empowering—offering cues that invite choice, foster curiosity, and respect individual experience.

The aim is to help you teach from a place of confidence and integrity, honouring the lineage of yoga while making the practice accessible, sustainable, and meaningful for modern bodies and modern lives.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda offers a time-tested framework for understanding balance, vitality, and individual needs—and in this training, we explore how to apply its wisdom in a variety of contexts.

A key focus of this section is understanding how Ayurvedic principles can inform and shape asana practice. You’ll explore how qualities such as grounding, stimulation, stability, and ease can be emphasized or softened through posture choice, sequencing, pacing, and rest—allowing movement practices to be adapted to support different constitutions, seasons, and states of being.

Beyond asana, we explore how Ayurvedic wisdom supports the individual, creating the inner balance that allows you to truly hold space for others.

Polyvagal Theory, Self Care & Regulation

This section explores how the nervous system shapes our experience—both on and off the mat.

Through an accessible introduction to Polyvagal Theory, you’ll learn how states of safety, stress, and connection influence movement, breath, and behavior. We focus on practical tools for self-care and regulation, helping you recognize your own nervous system patterns so that you can respond with skill and compassion.

Learning how to care for yourself first so you can show up grounded, balanced, and present when holding space for others. These practices are designed to support sustainable teaching, personal well-being, and give you the tools to create a safe space for others to enjoy.

The Bussiness of Yoga

The business of yoga is an important part of building a sustainable and meaningful path within the practice. In this section of the training, we explore the practical skills that support stepping into the professional world of teaching with confidence and clarity.

Here, you'll gain the foundational tools needed to work within the yoga industry and learn how to write professional invoices, apply for teaching positions, and communicate effectively with studios and wellness spaces.

Beyond logistics, we explore what it means to become a valuable and supportive presence within a studio environment. This includes cultivating professionalism, reliability, and collaboration—qualities that help you contribute meaningfully to a community while building lasting relationships within the field of yoga.

Hands on Adjustments

Hands-on adjustments offer a way to support students in experiencing greater clarity, stability, and ease within their practice. In this section of the training, we explore how thoughtful physical assists can complement clear verbal guidance to enhance understanding and embodiment in asana.

A key focus of this work is developing anatomical awareness and sensitivity in the way adjustments are offered. You’ll learn how to observe patterns in posture and movement, and how to apply supportive touch that encourages safe alignment, stability, and spaciousness rather than force or correction.

Equally important is the cultivation of presence, communication, and consent. We explore how to approach hands-on assisting with respect and attentiveness, ensuring that adjustments are offered in a way that supports each student’s individual experience while honouring boundaries, comfort, and trust.

Nutrition and Supporting the Self

Exploring nutrition is an important part of supporting a sustainable yoga practice. Because yoga—especially teaching—is an energetically giving practice, this section invites you to reflect on how nourishment can help replenish and sustain your own energy, clarity, and well-being.

In this section a focus is placed on developing a deeper awareness of how food supports both physical vitality and mental steadiness. Rather than approaching nutrition through rigid rules, we explore it as a supportive tool for cultivating balance, resilience, and longevity within your practice and daily life.

Through this exploration, you’ll be encouraged to consider how mindful nourishment can help you care for your own body and energy first—so that when you hold space for others, you do so from a place that is grounded, nourished, and full.

Practice & Integration

Practice teaching is where knowledge begins to take shape through lived experience. In this section of the training, you’ll have the opportunity to integrate the many elements of your studies—bringing together anatomy, philosophy, sequencing, and the subtle practices that support a well-rounded yoga class.

Here, you’ll explore how these areas inform and support one another. Anatomical understanding helps guide safe and intelligent movement, while philosophical teachings offer depth and intention to the practice. Through thoughtful sequencing, you’ll learn how to weave these principles into classes that feel balanced, purposeful, and supportive for students.

You’ll also refine the skills that help you communicate and hold space for a class, including clear verbal guidance, supportive hands-on adjustments, and the integration of pranayama and meditation. Through repeated practice teaching and feedback, you’ll begin to develop confidence, presence, and a teaching style that reflects your own authentic voice.

Haley Wall
Haley Scott
Lead Instructor

After moving to Toronto in 2013 to study Drawing and Painting at OCAD University, Haley found herself seeking connection in a new city. The search that stemmed from the need to feel less isolated, led her to a yoga studio— but ultimately, to a practice that would reshape her path entirely. Haley completed her first 250-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2016 while finishing her undergraduate degree, and began teaching full-time immediately after completing her certification. Since then, her studies have continued to evolve, including a 300-hour advanced training in Bali, a 30-hour trauma-informed certification, a 30-hour aerial yoga training, an 8-hour hands-on adjustments intensive, and mentorship with an FST provider to deepen her understanding of anatomy. Haley's teaching is rooted in a deep respect for the individuality of each body, with a strong focus on functional anatomy and intelligent movement. Now, with over a decade of teaching experience, Haley is deeply honoured to lead this training and share the knowledge she has accumulated—supporting future teachers in developing confidence, clarity, and a practice that is truly their own.

In this YTT : I'm most excited to facilitate those "aha" moments. The ones where learning is integrated, the new passions are discovered for the first time and the big pictures finally come into focus.

Ashley Mariani
Registered Social Worker

Ashley takes a rogue approach to therapy: no BS, no wasting time, real results grounded in neuroscience, neuropsychology, and body-based practices. She helps individuals and couples learn their nervous systems, deepen intimacy, and reclaim their power. The approach is direct, effective, and honours the whole person; mind, body, and spirit.
Ashley's modalities are eclectic by design. She doesn't drink the koolaid of just one approach because building a strong therapeutic relationship matters more than any single method. The work draws from multiple disciplines to meet clients where they are and give them what actually works. Ashley works collaboratively alongside other holistic practitioners, recognizing that healing often requires an integrative team approach. Whether through breathwork, energy work, sound healing, or nervous system education, the work is science-backed, spiritually grounded, and unapologetically honest.

In this YTT : I'm most excited about being a part of something amazing in the world of mind body learning, in addition to rewriting the script for what yoga teachers bring to their students.

Hali Schwartz
Philosophy & Pranayama

Hali has been both immersed in, and captivated by the world of yoga since she was a girl of just nine years old. Her very first teacher was her mother, who had just begun her own lifelong journey into the heart and soul of yoga and its myriad of practices.  In1987, when Hali was 19, she followed her mother to the north western Himalayas where she had been living and studying in an ashram yoga community for more than a decade. It was here, at the International Meditation Institute (I.M.I), where Hali would begin her nearly four decades of intense study in the many branches of yoga philosophy, scripture study, Sanskrit, chanting & meditation, as well as a deep immersion into the lineages of both hatha & kriyā yoga. In 1999, Hali decided to dedicate her life to sharing the wisdom of yoga, and so would become a full time yoga educator, international retreat leader, and trainer of yoga teachers worldwide. She is the author of two books: One Without a Second: the Seeds of Yoga Philosophy from Root to Sprout, and Yog and I: Living Philosophy for Teachers and Seekers. Hali is based in Toronto, Canada where she is known for her passion and enthusiasm in sharing the many philosophies and practices of yoga tradition to both students and teachers alike.
In this YTT: I am most excited about exploring how the non-physical aspects of yoga are the origin of this practice we have come to know and love. Bringing yoga philosophy to life, so that it can be lived day to day, is my life's passion.

Nathan Scott
Anatomy & Phisiology

Nathan Scott is a certified fitness and health professional with over a decade of experience helping people move, feel, and live better. With a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion from Humber College, Nathan blends strength training, movement science, and mobility into a practical, results-driven approach that meets people where they are. As a co-founder of Shift Yoga Collective, he specializes in working with adults who want to build strength, improve mobility, and maintain long-term health without feeling overwhelmed. Nathan’s teaching style is grounded, educational, and accessible—focused not just on what to do, but why it matters—empowering clients and students to take ownership of their health for life.

In this YTT: I'm most excited about bridging the gap between theory and practice—bringing anatomy and physiology to life through real-world training applications. Rather than treating these subjects as abstract concepts, I focus on making them practical, relatable, and directly applicable to yoga instruction. My goal is to help students build a foundation they can actually use: understanding how the body moves, adapts, and responds so they can confidently guide others in a way that is both safe and effective.

Chloe Chaput
Ayurveda

Hi, I’m Chloe. I’m a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and Yoga Instructor, and I’ve been studying Ayurveda formally since 2016. Ayurveda is a complete system for supporting balance in the mind, body, and spirit. I’ve experienced countless benefits from bringing Ayurveda into my life, and its principles form the foundation of my asana classes.
Ayurveda and Yoga share their roots and are designed to work together as a complete wellness system.

In this YTT: I’m most excited to share how Ayurveda can shape your teaching and practice—through elemental flows, sequencing prompts, and simple self-care practices that help you stay grounded and centered while teaching. I love seeing students connect with these ancient tools and bring them into their own lives (and classes)!
